EuropeanIssuers co-signs the ISSB COP28 climate declaration

On 04 December 2023, EuropeanIssuers signed the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) climate declaration presented at COP 28. The event marks the two-year anniversary since the ISSB was created, and this statement represents the commitment to advance the adoption or use of the International Sustainability Standards Board’s climate-related reporting at a global level.

EuropeanIssuers is pleased to co-sign the statement supporting the advancement of consistent, comparable climate-related disclosures at a global level building on the baseline provided by the ISSB. Members welcome the work undertaken by the EU Commission, EFRAG and the ISSB to make the recently adopted European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) as much interoperable as possible with such international baseline to avoid duplication efforts for European issuers.  While preparing their sustainability statements in accordance with the more comprehensive set of European standards, they consider that other jurisdictions in the rest of the world should also introduce stringent transparency obligations in this area to better combat climate change, which is a global phenomenon, and to ensure fair competition.

In short, the statement conveys the message that climate risks are increasingly having a real effect on both companies and capital. Therefore, this statement aims at reiterating the ISSB and co-signatures’ call for climate action, but also to show support for the establishment of market infrastructure to enable consistent, comparable climate-related disclosures at a global level.

As a result, EuropeanIssuers remains committed to advancing the green transition while representing the voice of European companies.
